Reading Program Encourages Community at Hometown
Katy Spreitzer tells the students about The Lemonade War
Hometown School kicked off their annual One Book, One School Program encouraging students and their families to read together. This year the students will read The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies.
The book follows the story of a brother and sister who decide to run competing lemonade stands. While the book is an entertaining story about family, it also incorporates math to tell the story of the small entrepreneurs.
Principal Spreitzer hopes Hometown families utilize the opportunity to spend the time together through reading.
“In a day and age when everyone is running in ten different directions every single day, programs like this provide families an opportunity to stop and take time out to do what’s most important; read and spend time together. That is why One School, One Book Program is one of our most valuable family engagement programs,” she said.
The youngest member of each family at Hometown received the book on Wednesday. Both the English and Spanish version was handed out.
